Calling a therapist doesn’t mean a long term commitment. On the contrary it means action. As a licensed therapist, with the dream of watching as many people as possible feel better about life, I make the choice to use brief, solution-focused methods most of the time.
Therapy for men
Do you think no therapist should tell you how to run your life? So do I. Let’s begin a short respectful man-to-man conversation instead. About whatever you decide to explore.
Don’t ask me for directions. I only know how to ride shotgun on your journey. What guys usually hire me as is a companion for a short time when the path is unclear. I’ve learned some navigation skills the way we all do, along the road, during two marriages spanning 34 years so far, raising my family and in various jobs (yes, the psych degrees help too).
My work begins with my respect for everyone who’s made it this far on life’s journey. I won’t apply some one-size-fits-all technique to your issues. I work to help people notice the strengths and abilities they have to take the reins of their own lives.
The first step is the hardest: getting yourself in here for the first time. Don’t worry about it. Making it ok to be here is my job, not yours. Also, there’s no commitment beyond the first meeting. See available appointments online at http://www.davidmcgarva.com/scheduler.
Thank you
To sum up: in my office I offer respectful brief therapy to other people negotiating those typical roadblocks in life that most of us meet from time to time - feeling depressed, relationship issues, coping with setbacks and losses, wondering where to turn next, and so on.
Thank you for reading all this. If anything wasn’t clear, or you couldn’t easily find what you wanted to know, please go right ahead and email me. I’m very interested in hearing how I can clarify and expand what I’ve written here in the most useful way.
